Our Lady of Victory School Curriculum

Our Lady of Victory is large enough to offer a wide range of academic programs and opportunities, yet small enough to provide each student with the individual attention he or she requires. Emphasis is on academic excellence in an environment which educates the whole child.

Early Childhood Education - Nursery Through Kindergarten

Our early childhood program is designed to meet the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional needs of the young child by mixing classroom activities with outside play, visits to the library and computer lab, and field trips. Our program helps the young child build self-esteem and a love of learning.

Curriculum - Grades 1 Through 8

Our academic program provides each student with a strong foundation in mathematics, science, language arts, and social studies. Each grade's schedule is designed to make optimum use of the student's time. Ninety-five percent of our students continue their studies in a private high school of their choice. For example, twelve OLV graduates are currently enrolled at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School. Our academic programs are enriched by computer technology (with OLV's up-to-date computer lab), art, music, library, and physical education instruction. Spanish courses are also offered. Our Lady of Victory is accredited by the Middle States Association.

High Quality Faculty

OLV is blessed to have dedicated and talented faculty striving to assist each child’s development to his/her fullest potential. In addition to classroom instructors, our faculty includes a librarian, as well as music, art, computer, and physical education instructors. All our teachers have expertise in their fields, with over half holding master’s degrees. Many have more than five years of teaching experience, and some have more than ten years with Our Lady of Victory.

Low Student/Teacher Ratio

Class sizes are limited to an approximate ratio of 16 to 1. Professional certified staff provide students with individualized attention in small group instruction.

The Catholic school at the heart of the Church

The complexity of the modern world makes it all the more necessary to increase awareness of the ecclesial identity of the Catholic school. It is from its Catholic identity that the school derives its original characteristics and its "structure" as a genuine instrument of the Church, a place of real and specific pastoral ministry. The Catholic school participates in the evangelizing mission of the Church and is the privileged environment in which Christian education is carried out. In this way "Catholic schools are at once places of evangelization, of complete formation, of enculturation, of apprenticeship in a lively dialogue between young people of different religious and social backgrounds." The ecclesial nature of the Catholic School, therefore, is written at the very heart of its identity as a teaching institution. It is a true and proper ecclesial entity by reason of its educational activity, "in which faith, culture and life are brought into harmony". Thus it must be strongly emphasized that this ecclesial dimension is not a mere adjunct, but is a proper and specific attribute, a distinct characteristic which penetrates and informs every moment of its educational activity, a fundamental part of its very identity and the focus of its mission. The fostering of this dimension should be the aim of all those who make up the educating community.
