The Educational Experience at Our Lady of Victory School

Building the Future

Our Lady of Victory offers a warm, nurturing environment that enables students to develop the self-esteem and skills needed to achieve their full academic, interpersonal and leadership potential. OLV focuses on academic excellence and strong moral values, utilizing a committed professional departmental teaching staff to provide quality Catholic education. We recognize that children are the "hope of tomorrow". We offer dedicated faculty and a balanced curriculum. We encourage and support extracurricular activities in conjunction with significant involvement of parents. Together we guide students to realize their full potential and help assure them a lifetime of success. As part of its mission, OLV services a diverse population that includes students from the international community as well as the entire metropolitan area.

Advantages of Our Lady of Victory

The compact size of Our Lady of Victory School works to the great advantage of both students and teachers:

Small classes mean that teachers know each student well and can help the student develop to his or her full potential.

The family-like environment of the school means that no students are anonymous or forgotten. All children are appreciated. School families are networked and supportive.

The close-knit faculty work together to provide an outstanding academic environment based on their in-depth knowledge of student abilities, parental aspirations, and high school expectations.

OLV has a very safe environment, with no discipline problems.

Students have many more opportunities to participate in activities and take leadership roles than in larger schools.

The school can easily maintain a moral, spiritual, and Catholic environment.

Special academic enrichment programs are available where students work in small groups with teachers or professionals from the community.

Classroom

Classes are small at OLV, permitting more student involvement and contact with teachers. Emphasis is on traditional academic pursuits from an early age, rather than educational fads. Students are well prepared for the competitive academic environment they will face after graduation, as well as for engaging the social and political challenges of our time.

Home and School Association

At OLV, parents actively participate in a variety of academic, social, and religious events to support the intellectual, social, and spiritual growth of the students. The Home and School Association actively supports the school with various fundraising activities and social events.

Extracurricular Enrichment

Our school helps to further develop our children’s special talents and interests through extracurricular activities, including:

   - Band/Choir
   - Student Council
   - CYO sports: soccer, basketball
   - Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, Brownies
   - Foreign Language
   - Chess Club

Extended Day Program

A before and after school programs is available on days when school is in session. This program is supervised by OLV’s own teachers! Attendance is permitted on a monthly contract or a drop/in basis.

Religious Program

OLV welcomes students of all denominations. Catholic religious instruction is given in the classroom by certified instructors. In addition to formal daily instruction, the religious program provides opportunities for students to practice and live their faith through participation in monthly and special liturgies, preparation for and reception of sacraments, and participation in social service activities.

Library

OLV students have at their disposal a well-equipped library, and enjoy weekly library visits with age-appropriate material. They learn to use library facilities and resources properly. Visits to the local public library branch (only two blocks away) are also conducted regularly.

Community Service

OLV also participates in community service projects such as Shepherd's Table/Help the Homeless, to enable students to become more aware of the world around them and what they can do to help make it a better place.

Extracurricular Activities

OLV students participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities that are both fun and help to build strong relationships with family and friends while teaching valuable lessons. Click below for photos of some of these activities.
